This is probably the prettiest lighthouse in door county. The island itself separates the current, which wraps around it and crashes its waves into each other, forming a shallow land bridge that can be crossed by foot or by tractor. For the adventurous, walk across barefoot for the full experience! The island itself has a trail wrapped in close tree limbs, giving it a magical vibe. You do have to pay to be on the island so I recommend staying a considerable amount of time to make it worth it.

Beautiful place. Historic lighthouse on an island off the coast of Wisconsin's Door County, in Lake Michigan. Just a short drive north of Bailey's Harbor, easy to find if you follow signage. Parking lot on mainland is small and the tractor that pulls the wagon across the causeway goes back and forth every ten to fifteen minutes. You can also wade across to the island; the water is only about knee deep but usually would be quite cold. Staff is friendly. There are vault toilets on the island. I visited on an afternoon that had turned gray and windy, blowing in storms later that night. Lake Michigan provided nice wave action across the shoals surrounding the island. I took many beautiful and dramatic photos during my visit. I can't wait to go back again!
