The O’Fallon Historical Museum presents the history of Southeastern Montana, Fallon County and the Baker Montana area. Baker was founded in open range cattle country in 1908 and built by the influx of people for the railroad and homesteaders seeking an opportunity for a better life. Agriculture, followed by natural gas and then oil production, provided the means for development in this rural setting on the eastern plains of Montana. The museum illustrates the early days of life here with a tar paper homestead house, the Duffield homestead house and the Lambert house, each containing items used in every day life in the early 1900’s. The trading post, barber shop, dress shop and parlor take you back to Baker’s early days. The camera room has pictures of the changes over time. We have a building full of early farm equipment including the Yellow Fellow thrashing machine from 1900 that is made of wood and vehicles including a 1927 Model T truck. The main building is the original Fallon County Jail that was built in 1916 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and contains military artifacts from our service men and women in World Wars I and II and much more. Steer Montana, the world’s largest steer at 3,980 pounds, is a featured attraction in the Jail building.Work out when and for how long to visit O'Fallon Historical Museum and other Baker attractions using our handy Baker trip planner.

My children and I really enjoy the museum. The new curator has done a fabulous job in brining in interesting activities for the kids, organizing the exhibits, and making history fun. With several buildings to look at, you are sure to find something interesting. Our families personal favorites are the fossils, old photos of Baker and surrounding communities, Steer Montana, and the two headed calves.
