  • The three of us enjoyed spending an hour and fifteen minutes hiking the 3.4 mile River Scenic Trail loop. The ridge top portion of the trail had plenty of river views and plenty of benches to enjoy...

  • I'm not a nature person at all or one to consider hiking as a fun outing. However, I must say that I was beyond impressed with Castlewood State Park! I am not into exercise or fitness, but I am very much in love with the hiking trail here. It's a beautiful leisurely stroll with minimal exertion that you will wish wasn't over just yet as you reach the end. October is my favorite time to visit with all of the gorgeous colors. We hit the 2.7 miles trail around 10:30 a.m. which takes 2.5-3 hours with resting, gazing, playing & pictures. Afterwards, we enjoy a picnic lunch in one of the open meadows or picnic sites. If you're looking for a free or inexpensive date or family outing that's memorable & enjoyable for everyone, Castlewood will definitely impress you & your loved ones! It's just the perfect amount of outdoor adventure without overdoing it or hearing excessive complaints from tired or bored kiddos. Even the biggest of couch potatoes will love it, so drag your lazy family members too. I promise you will love it!
  • Without a doubt, this is the best place to hike within the St. Louis area. Great trails and beautiful views!! Fall colors are really starting to show but haven't hit their peak yet.
