Create an itinerary including Land Bridge to Bar Island
Take a walk across Land Bridge to Bar Island, exposed only during low tide. The uninhabited tidal island, part of a national park, becomes accessible to walkers and bikers for about three hours each day when the gravel harbor seafloor is exposed. The "bar" connects the island to the town on the mainland during this short period. Once on the island, you can explore a network of trails and several scenic overlooks providing views of the town across the water. To avoid being unable to cross back to the mainland once the water rises, be sure to time your hike with low tide. Check online for a chart providing exact low tide times for this area. • Great views. Very peaceful walk and opportunity to enjoy the island in a different way. Easy walk that can be done in an hour.

  • Wonderful “trip” across to the island. The walk is short and fairly flat. We did not walk around the island, but that seems like it would be a nice adventure. It was quite cold in March so boots...

  • Awesome short walk over the bridge and up to the rock pile. Gets a bit crowded during tourist season, but there's still plenty of room for everyone. Fun for the whole family!
  • My family and I really loved the land bridge. Great for tide pooling and skipping stones. The hike on bar island is not worth the trip, the trail goes up a hill and stops suddenly. It's hard to know you've even finished the trail.
