Pay your respects to the Allied soldiers that participated in the 1944 invasion of Normandy at National D-Day Memorial. An English garden, victory plaza, and invasion tableau serve as a powerful tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of those who took part in the World War II battle. As the American town that suffered the greatest per-capita loss on D-Day, Bedford makes a fitting home for this important memorial, opened in 2001. Read the names of the residents who participated in the D-Day event alongside many more on tablets that border the Elmon T. Gray Plaza. The list includes all 4,413 fallen Allied soldiers, making it the most complete list of its kind in the world. Take a guided tour to learn more and read the information displays throughout the site. It was a very instructive history class given by Bill who led us through the timeline of one of the most important events in the last 100 years. Nice stop in our road trip. Oh and they have a very nice selection of goodies in their souvenir shop too.
Possibly the best memorial i have come across. It was a great representation of D-day and the people involved. Surprised i had never heard of it, possibly better than any you would see in D.C.
