Create an itinerary including National D-Day Memorial
Pay your respects to the Allied soldiers that participated in the 1944 invasion of Normandy at National D-Day Memorial. An English garden, victory plaza, and invasion tableau serve as a powerful tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of those who took part in the World War II battle. As the American town that suffered the greatest per-capita loss on D-Day, Bedford makes a fitting home for this important memorial, opened in 2001. Read the names of the residents who participated in the D-Day event alongside many more on tablets that border the Elmon T. Gray Plaza. The list includes all 4,413 fallen Allied soldiers, making it the most complete list of its kind in the world. Take a guided tour to learn more and read the information displays throughout the site. • This is an amazing memorial in Virginia. We didn't take a tour due to time constraints. Would have liked to spend more time here. Definitely visit if anywhere remotely close!

  • What a beautiful memorial. The memorial painted a great picture from that time. The artwork (statues) were amazing. The history and story behind the statues was fascinating. Would visit here again.

  • One of the most impressive sites I've ever seen! I hope it stays that way. I got more than my monies worth. I just walked around and took many pictures. Next time I hope to bring my family members with me and do a group tour. Thank you, VA, for this beautiful memorial to our fallen soldiers! The drive there was beautiful, too, but drive carefully because some of the roads have sharp curves.
  • Very nice memorial. Easy access. We noticed a few RV's, so, plenty of room if you're passing through the area in a camper. The losses that day were staggering. A lesson in history that nobody should forget. God Bless the United States of America.
