Hike through old-growth forest, spot 22 named waterfalls, and relax by a cobalt lake in Ricketts Glen State Park. A National Natural Landmark, the park covers 5,280 ha (13,050 acres), and its highest waterfall, Ganoga Falls, tumbles 29 m (94 ft). As you choose among the 42 km (26 mi) of hiking trails, consider a route that goes to Lake Jean, where you'll find 183 m (600 ft) of beach and waterside picnic tables. The park permits swimming, fishing, and hunting, and you can spend the night at a campsite or in a cabin if you'd like. Absolutely beautiful trails. Lots of frogs. No bears or fish. Had almost too good of a time. Mushrooms were fantastic. We walked by the yellow paint. I feel like we went on three different trails. We went to the grand view and saw a fire tower that said no trespassing. We also went on a fall trail and the highlands trails. Nice and muddy and the ground can be deceiving. Very healthy soil. Parking lot is east to find. Maps are close near by. We went on a Monday morning and it was a little touristy. People with families and kids. Pleasant people let me tell you. I saw a dog that was scared to go down the rock stair case but it made it. And boy it must of had a great time. I want to check out the camping they have on my next visit. Oh and also! The trails that had no water falls were less trafficked.
Most amazing hike for me this summer so far. You can look at all the pictures you want to look at online or read all the books and magazines that speak of State Parks, but this is the kind of place you can only really experience in person. If you love losing yourself in nature and enjoying beautiful scenic Forrest and waterfall, this place is worth the visit. The scenery is great and every few miles you are able to find another waterfall to keep you excited on the journey without losing interest. The trail path are wide and clear.
