Alstrom Point Reviews
Absolutely beautiful, but I didn't manage my time well as the drive and hike was much longer than I expected. It's about 23 miles of dirt, gravel, rocky and windy roads to get to the first overlook..... more »
3 local guides recommended us to come and visit this place. We had a Jeep Wrangler and it was the best way to get there. If you only stay at the first overview point you don't need 4x4, but if you... more »
You need four wheel drive to get here, which was nice because it keeps the crowds out. Gorgeous viewpoint and car camping spot, doesn't get much better than this!
Few Things you need to remember before going to Alstrom Point. 1. Must need SUV with AWD or 4x4. Don't even try with your Car. 100% your Car will get stuck in unpaved mud road and the earliest help will reach to your place no sooner then 3 hours if your luck is good. This is the secluded area and fully unpaved, dust and flooded. I encountered with 2 rattle snake hence walking with stick is must and very careful when you put your step in rocks. 2. if you want to see the sunrise you must need to start around 3:00 AM 3. can't be recommended the single person travel as you must need the help of the second person to see the road stones and guide you from outside so that SUV will not bump and dented 4. must fill full tank gas before go as you never know the circumstances and your SUV AC will consume more fuel. 5. always close your door mirrors as the dust is so heavy your entire SUV will have dirt inside. 6. if there is rain in past 2-3 days must avoid going there as you need to drive 8-9 times from inside river path and surely your SUV or 4x4 will not save you in Mud stuck. 6. the unpaved road near before 3 miles to the point is entirely broken and you will see the big dump and big stone it took me to 20 min to fill the bump with small rocks so that the SUV cross it. Your second partner help is must be needed that time else you will get an excellent big dent in SUV everywhere. 7. the unpaved road/gravel road is hazardous at most of the point if you are not careful your SUV will get lean, and you will lose control 8. take plenty of water, lunch and snacks. 9. and the last view is fantastic if you reach in the early morning.
