Yellowstone County Museum, Billings

4.1
#4 of 7 in Museums in Billings
The museum looks like a small cabin on the Rims' edge, but don't judge a book by its cover! It sits atop a large lower level, housing a full sized chuck wagon, a sheep herder wagon, spellbinding collections of Northern Plains Native Tribes artifacts, historical firearms, and more! New in 2015 was an exhibit about Clark and the Corps of Discovery on the Yellowstone.

The Landmarks Gallery Feature Exhibit - A Rip-Roaring Good Time - explores the rowdy early days of Billings with stories of gambling, alcohol, theft, murder, and more.

Featuring a breathtaking view of Billings and the surrounding landscape, our large, covered deck is available to rent for private gatherings. Please contact the museum for current rates and to make a reservation.

Yellowstone County Museum is a non-profit organization that offers free admission. Your donations are greatly appreciated.

  • Interesting assortment of items and free! I spent over an hour there looking around and learned a lot about Montana and the people that have been there over the years. Was not particularly large or organized, but informative and interesting.
  • Staff who works there is friendly, informative, talkative and answers questions. Nice displays ranging from baseball, prehistoric MT, Native American life and a gift shop area.
