The Biloxi Bay Bridge is a bridge in the U.S. state of Mississippi which carries U.S. Route 90 (US 90) over Biloxi Bay between Biloxi and Ocean Springs. Though the bridge's ballast and accompanying railroad track was heavily damaged by Hurricane Katrina in August 2005, the structure remained and subsequently underwent major repairs. It reopened to traffic on November 1, 2007. The span carries 6 lanes of traffic as well as a 12ft path for pedestrians and bicyclists on the Gulf side of the bridge.Put Biloxi Bay Bridge into our Biloxi online trip builder to see other points of interest to visit during your vacation in Biloxi.
After the bridge's destruction from Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the MDOT tasked the reconstruction of the bridge to GC Constructors and its subcontractor Parsons for $339 million. Terms of the contract included that the bridge must have 1 lane of traffic in each direction open within 18 months, and all construction completed within 22 months. Construction was completed ahead of schedule, at 20 months. The new bridge is 129 feet wide, with 3 lanes of traffic in each direction, as well as a 12 ft pedestrian & cyclist path on the south facing side of the bridge. The new bridge is designed to withstand hurricane-force winds and waves similar to those of Katrina.
Biloxi Bay Bridge Reviews
It is a long and beautiful bridge and the builders made a place to stop and take a picture. The view of the ocean from the high point is wide open and sunrise or sunset beg a picture. more »
The one good thing Katrina did was destroy the old bridge. It was just awful. The new bridge drives extremely well. The walk, run, bike path on the side was a great addition to the bridge. There are a... more »
I absolutely love this bridge! The pieces of artwork that's every 10th of a mile is just gorgeous! I really enjoyed stopping at each 1 to admire and take a pic. Only went to the top of the arch but it's an amazing view up there! And so peaceful looking out at the ocean.
Love this bridge! Fun to cross over with bikes. There’s a wide sidewalk parallel with the road with a cement wall separating the pedestrians from the cars, so it’s very safe. Beautiful plaques all along the walkway. The best thing is to park a little away from the Biloxi bridge and then ride your bikes over and into ocean springs and go along the beaches and then stop at tatonut donut shop in town. Then bike back and catch the sunset on top of the bridge. Super fun!
