The city is the county seat of Union County.HistoryThe town is named after Revolutionary War veteran James Blair.On 26 December 1835, the Georgia General Assembly designated Blairsville as the Union county seat (Ga. Laws 1835, p. 113).Although the neighboring city of Dahlonega was known as the first site of gold in the United States, the Blairsville area was known to have the purest gold in the mountains.
