Conceived in 1967, the Normandale Japanese Garden was designed by Tokyo landscape architect Takao Watanabe and constructed on two acres of Bloomington's Normandale Community College campus. Open to the public year-round (when not reserved for private events, announced here) and without charge, the garden is supported by the Normandale Community College Foundation, private donations and fundraising events, and fees from private photo sessions and weddings held on the grounds.

  • This is such a tranquil, cozy garden that should be added to your must see list when you're in the area. The garden is free of charge, although donations are appreciated. I'd recommend bringing some quarters for the fish food so you can feed the koi fish.I'm so glad we stopped. It was a relaxing yet energizing way to start our day.
  • Wow. Such a beautiful hidden gem. After u stepping through the entrance, I felt a sense of calmness and tranquility. Great spot to leave your electronics in the car, I sure will next time I visit
