Est. 1989

Foggy Mountain Gem Mine was founded by Dana Morace, a classically trained pianist and RN(Registered Nurse), originally from High Point, NC. After retiring as a nurse, Dana discovered the art of lapidary, cutting rough stones into gems, and thus found her second calling.

Dana shared her art with her son, Nik, who continues to provide the finest in colored gemstones from around the world, in a fun, family atmosphere. Emeralds, Rubies, Sapphires, Amethyst, Citrine, and many more are guaranteed in each bucket of ore sold.

Once you find your rough stones , a staff member will identify them for you, and show you how to turn them into unique family heirlooms. Our jewelry settings are offered in 14k Gold and Sterling Silver at the most reasonable prices. Gorgeous mineral specimens are also available for collectors of all ages!

Stop by Foggy Mountain Gem Mine for a uniquely rewarding, educational and Eco-friendly experience you won't get anywhere else.

Buckets Range from $30-$325

  • Went to the gem mine for the first time. We purchased the “Big Daddy Bucket” for four of us. We found some great gems and plan to take a few to be polished and cut. They can do all of that there but t...  more »
  • Great little gem mining. We shared the smallest bucket with several of us and our toddler. He had fun finding gems. Very interesting when the staff would go over what you found we learned a lot.  more »

  • This place is really fun. I have done things like this in other places but none where you get the amount of gems that we did. My wife and I stopped here and ended up spending almost 2 hours here and had a blast. We were the only 2 adults in our 30’s most people were either in their 60’s or parents and kids but we had a blast and truly got so many gems. Loved this place would definitely go back if in the area again.
  • Great place, highly recommend! When we arrived they said they were closed (30 min ago). However, their website showed a close time of 5:00pm. They still honored that time and allowed our 5 year old to mine for gems. She had waited all day to do it and it was a blast. We found some great things, they did not rush us at all and even after it was past their online close time they spent time showing our daughter the different gems she had found. We considered not going because it was so close to the road but we are so glad we came here. Highly recommend and would definitely go back!
