The Watauga County Farmers' Market is a farmers' market located in Boone, North Carolina established July 6, 1974.
In 1973, the New River Valley Resource Conservation and Development Project, sponsored by the USDA with the Soil Conservation Service as the "lead agency" developed the idea.
Support came from the Watauga County Commissioners who provided a $1,500 grant as seed money, and from a community action program known as WAMY (Watauga, Avery, Mitchell and Yancy) who provided the manager's salary.
The market found a vacant half-acre lot on the outskirts of Boone, North Carolina and remained at that spot for the first two years.
North Carolina Governor James E. Holshouser came to the formal dedication on July 6, 1974. Governor Holshouser stated that "This is a great example of how community spirit can be built for something the people know is important". The start of the market was entirely a community event. The Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation helped locate vendors by sending out a survey to its customers. Free coverage was provided on the local radio station and in the newspaper. The market continues to support the community with policies such as allowing local non-profits to set up once during a season for free.
The Watauga County Farmers' Market moved to a permanent spot in the parking lot of the Horn in the West Amphitheater in Boone. Arrange to visit Watauga County Farmer's Market and other attractions in Boone using our Boone trip builder site.

  • We spotted lots of fresh, organic produce, locally farmed meats, eggs, breads and crafts and listen to the spirited sounds of a mountain band. WCFM is a 100% producer-only market.   Best bread ever...

  • What a great market. It’s producer-only, which means that all the vendors grow, raise or make what they sell. If you are looking for freshly picked organic veggies you’ll love it. Many organic and organic practicing farms sell here. You’ll also find mushrooms, grass fed beef, pastured chicken and eggs and other meats. Some fruit when in season, fresh baked bread and treats, local honey, cheese, flowers and more. Plus live music.
  • Super cute local farmer's market with some fantastic Watauga Co offerings. Don't sleep on High Country Fungi or Mystic Pasta. Great place to build a "mystery box" for the cook in your life or just pull up for a cheese biscuit.
