Cap'n Fish's Cruises has provided tours of whale-feeding grounds for more than 80 years, making it midcoast Maine's original whale-watching company. Marine biologists and naturalists are on board modern and comfortable ships, providing an informative commentary about the Gulf of Maine and some of its most famous inhabitants. You can spot these magnificent creatures from the upper deck, or relax with a drink and snacks in the temperature-controlled main salon that offers a 360 degree view of the surrounding water. If you plan to spend time on the open-air upper deck, wear multiple layers to help block the chill of the sea wind. It was a great trip, it was fun and educational, we learned quite a bit about the lobster! The crew was friendly and made sure we had a chance to participate

Great time on the Ship. Our Docent was very Knowledgeable and both the Captain and her were great at pointing out the different species of bird.

I think I went on 3 separate cruises with Cap'n Fish's Cruises during my stay. My favorite one was the morning Audubon tour. I had the most luck viewing puffins then, but that might just be luck, and we also got closer to viewing seals. That tour speaker was much more educational and sounded passionate about what she was talking about, so it was much more fun to listen to and it made all of the passengers more excited. That boat was also easier to move around, I think. The larger boats for the double puffin and whale watching tours I went on didn't seem to have enough room outside for everyone, it was harder to get around if you wanted to quickly look from the other side of the boat. So for those reasons that have nothing to do with luck, I'd personally choose and recommend the morning Audubon tour or any on that smaller vessel. I enjoyed all of my tours though, I just had much more fun on the Audubon one! We didn't see whales on either tours, so they give you a voucher for a free future tour (one of them I used the next day), given that there is enough space available. Also, keep in mind that you are not getting super close to the rocks where puffins and seals may be, so you will likely want to have binoculars if you don't have a camera with a telephoto lens to zoom in. Puffins are pretty tiny, especially when far away!

We had a great time on the Whale Watch. We went September 16, 2022. It was a clear sunny day but still take layers of warmer clothes when you go. We did see a Fin Whale. The captain and crew were friendly and knowledgeable about whales as well as the history of the surrounding area. Food is available on the boat as well as on the dock prior to boarding. Definitely a fun experience. When in or near Boothbay, ME Definitely do this!
