Cap'n Fish's Whale Watch, Boothbay Harbor

Cap'n Fish's Whale Watch has provided tours of whale-feeding grounds for more than 80 years, making it midcoast Maine's original whale-watching company. Marine biologists and naturalists are on board modern and comfortable ships, providing an informative commentary about the Gulf of Maine and some of its most famous inhabitants. You can spot these magnificent creatures from the upper deck, or relax with a drink and snacks in the temperature-controlled main salon that offers a 360 degree view of the surrounding water. If you plan to spend time on the open-air upper deck, wear multiple layers to help block the chill of the sea wind. • We saw whales!!! Need i say anymore? This whale watch was was great and this review doesn't need to be any longer. Do you want to see whales? If yes then just go!
  • We saw 2 whales that we followed for a while, and a large pod of dolphins that played in the boat wake on the way back to shore. It didn't sound like the dolphins happen often, but it was my favorite part of the trip. The parking by the ticket office is $20 for the day and $40 for overnight. The parking lot was full in the early afternoon. If you can get to the town early, you can probably find somewhere else that offers a much better rate. The boat takes about 45-60 minutes to both get to the open water and back to the harbor. We got to spend about 80 minutes out in the open water. As others have said, you may want to bring a jacket and closed-toe shoes to stay warm during the outbound and inbound trips. I think the best spot was probably the front of the first floor. They opened it up after we got close to the open water. It is a good spot to get some sun after the long trip outwards, and also easy to pivot to the whales as the captain tries to keep the whales towards the front end of the boat. Also, for a little extra you can bring your dog with.
