Gaslit, brick-paved sidewalks and cobbled streets make Beacon Hill a historical hotspot. Narrow, shuttered Federal-row houses line either side of the cobbled passageways and give visitors an idea on what strolling the streets of early Boston must have been like. The Massachusetts State House sits atop a hill in the neighborhood. Local media simply say "Beacon Hill" when referring to the state legislature because the government building sits on top of the hill. The Black Heritage Trail runs through the neighborhood past many homes, churches, and schools that were used by the African-American community. You'll also find the Museum of African American History. Check out sites, including The Club of Odd Volumes and the Headquarters House, which are open to the public. • Fun to see this during our Freedom Trail walk. We eavesdropped on some of the larger tour groups to learn more. :)

  • Nice style, oldy worldy, lots of small independent shops and cafes that bring it it's charm, well worth a slow walk around.
