Beacon Hill, Boston

Gaslit, brick-paved sidewalks and cobbled streets make Beacon Hill a historical hotspot. Narrow, shuttered Federal-row houses line either side of the cobbled passageways and give visitors an idea on what strolling the streets of early Boston must have been like. The Massachusetts State House sits atop a hill in the neighborhood. Local media simply say "Beacon Hill" when referring to the state legislature because the government building sits on top of the hill. The Black Heritage Trail runs through the neighborhood past many homes, churches, and schools that were used by the African-American community.
