The site of Fort Independence, Castle Island connects to the mainland via a narrow strip of land. What once served as a strategic military location in the 17th century is now a year-round recreation area. The fort takes up a majority of the island, and a few wide paths encircle the outer walls. You can join a guided tour on weekends or enjoy a self-guided tour on weekdays. • Visited here on a Sunday afternoon. Great views and lots of history. Great place to walk, bike and relax. Unfortunately you can’t go inside the fortress unless your part of a tour.

  • We walked the Castle Island loop around the historic Fort Independence and continued on to take the Pleasure Bay loop for a longer stroll. This was a great place to unwind and enjoy the view.

  • It’s great places for family picnic , cookout and outing. The beautiful beach and castle is just amazing. We usually go there with kids and of course try to find seashells/snails/crabs etc. it keeps them busy and is very relaxing. There is a food place and lines are long. TIP: order online and pick up (much faster). Plenty of parking but kinda takes 2 round to find a spot. Overall, it’s a great place for family fun.
  • Good place to enjoy the views of Boston Harbor, have a picnic, stroll along Boston Harbor, visit the fort, watch the planes take off & land. There is a nice walking stroller friendly path. There is a place to eat right before Fort Independence called "Sullivans" which had good ice cream. This place gets real busy during weekends in summer so get there early to find a free parking spot! Overall a nice park and walking area with some very pretty views.
