Old City Hall, Boston

4.1
Boston's Old City Hall was home to its city council from 1865 to 1969. It was one of the first buildings in the French Second Empire style to be built in the United States. After the building's completion, the Second Empire style was used extensively elsewhere in Boston and for many public buildings in the United States, such as the Old Executive Office Building in Washington, D.C., as well as other city halls in Providence, Baltimore and Philadelphia. The building's architects were Gridley James Fox Bryant and Arthur Gilman.

  • The Old City Hall of Boston has been partially converted to a Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. I cannot think of a worse thing to repurpose an old building as. There are views of the cemetery where Paul Revere is interned from the bar. It is clearly a place put here to suck in the tourists. And it worked. They got me. I was hungry and went right in. I could have found a local bar or something. But here is the Old Courthouse and a Chain Restaurant. No Bueno!
  • It's an old building but, they did a good job in one of the offices (Law office) and kept it up in good standing but, in the elevator the need to replace the carpet.
