The Hogback, Boulder

This is a spectacular road and it is difficult to imagine how it was built. The road seems to go off the top of the world and wind through The canyons dropping thousands of feet along the way(as I recall). The grades are surprisingly steep and as high as any I have seen in the United States. We stopped at every location that we could and found unique information at a rest stop. There are surprising views and it is easy to see a lot of Territory between the Henry mountains and Navajo Mountain, which is in on the Arizona border

I’d read about Scenic Byway 12 in Utah and fit it into my itinerary touring The Mighty 5 National Parks. I did not know about the Hogback section of the road, it is simultaneously thrilling and terrifying but I’m so glad I got to experience it. Drive the posted speed limit and pay attention, there are steep drop offs on both sides of the road and no guardrails! Absolutely stunning!
