McGuckin Hardware, Boulder

#4 of 12 in Shopping in Boulder
Gift & Specialty Shop · Hidden Gem · Shopping
It all began in 1955 when our company’s namesake, a rugged, avid fisherman named Bill McGuckin, opened the doors of McGuckin Hardware. Employing four people in four departments, his success was based on his belief in personalized service, selection and first-hand experience.

In 1960, Dave Hight became a partner in McGuckin Hardware with his father-in-law, Bill. Together they sought to create a quality hardware store with a reputation for excellent service and selection. Working from this solid base, Dave has carried on McGuckin Hardware’s dedication to service since Bill’s death in 1966.

Staying within a block of its original location in Boulder, McGuckin Hardware has continued to grow. We currently employ around an average of 250 people in 18 different departments ranging from Garden to Housewares to Automotive – just to name a few. The store is 60,000+ square feet of sales floor selling over 200,00 items. With all of the growth, McGuckin Hardware continues to strive to meet Bill’s goals of providing personalized service, selection, and first-hand experience.

  • I've always liked the store I can usually find what I want. Helpful staff. But there is no cashiers around 1 when most people have their lunch break. No defined lines so everybody was just kind of cutting in. One side had two cashiers each one had a problem the other side only had one cashier and the other side had two cashiers and like 10 people in line. I had at least six people ask me as I walked the store if I needed help I would start to assign them as I put my items down and bought everything on Amazon.
  • Just had a great experience at McGuckin today. Went in it see if they could make a car key/FOB combo copy. Not only do they have copy service for this - it was done in 20 min while I kindly waited for them to cut the key and program the security from the OBD connector in my car. Spread the word they can replace your FOB. AWESOME stuff!!!
