Naropa University is a private university in Boulder, Colorado. Founded in 1974 by Tibetan Buddhist teacher Chögyam Trungpa, it is named for the 11th-century Indian Buddhist sage Naropa, an abbot of Nalanda. The university describes itself as Buddhist-inspired, ecumenical, and nonsectarian rather than Buddhist. Naropa promotes non-traditional activities like meditation to supplement traditional learning approaches. To visit Naropa University and other attractions in Boulder, use our Boulder trip planner.
Naropa was accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools in 1988, making it the first Buddhist-inspired academic institution to receive United States regional accreditation. It remains one of only a handful of such schools. The university has hosted a number of Beat poets under the auspices of its Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics.

My daughter who struggled at CU had such a successful experience at Naropa. They are ahead of the "mindful" education and way of life trend. more »
🙃 I liked it when it was still Lincoln Elementary School, back in the stone age, Boulderesque Era, ha ha... It abuts a playground turned otherwise these days and can be walked to from the University of Colorado's married student housing complex. Further, I'd like to add if you're enjoy sports you may get a kick out of observing the U.C. (C.U.) teams practice from this nearby location below the University of Colorado's biggest stadium. If you'd rather do Sports yourself, you might enjoy the nearby bicycle path that runs along the creek - you can't miss it! Peace, Love and seeking more understanding (paitence, 🙃 🤔😉). צבי
A small but well managed institution. The Naropa campus is well maintained and there appears to be a good relationship between the academics. The location in Boulder, on a quiet street, is ideal for campus this size.
