Visit Museum of the Rockies to see the largest collection of dinosaur remains in the United States, including the largest Tyrannosaurus Rex skull ever found. The museum covers more than 500 million years of physical and cultural history of the Rocky Mountains. The exhibits focus on dinosaurs, as well as life in the Rockies for Native Americans, fur traders, gold seekers, and settlers. The museum also contains the Tinsley House, a living history museum originally located in Willow Creek. Costumed guides explain what life was like for the Tinsley family and others like them in the 1800s. The exhibit was amazing! So many kinds of dinosaur bones and fossils and very cool American Indian displays as well as some antique cars and quilts and replicas of the way people used to live. Went to the planetarium. It was somewhat interesting, but not enough to maintain my focus. I had hoped that Montana Sky would've been showing all of the stars at night and expanding to an outer space journey showing galaxies and constellations from telescopes and in space. That would've been amazing for the planetarium room.... Instead, it was just diagrams basically of the stars in our system and how to find them. Well, that's what I got out of it. Regardless, the Museum of the Rockies is definitely worth seeing. Their gift shop is very nice, too.
We visited the Museum of the Rockies on a weekday, early morning when they opened. We tried the day before in the afternoon, but the parking lot was completely packed so we went next day. The morning was perfect! No wait and the staff was super friendly and helpful in guiding us on how to see everything in the museum. Perfect for littles who love dinosaurs and there are other exhibits and artwork that I enjoyed so much. Agree with other reviews that this is a nice stop to make if you're in the area.
