In the mid 1960's on Cape Cod, Bill Sydenstricker developed a new craft inspired by the extensive research he had conducted while at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on early Egyptian art.Arrange to visit Sydenstricker Glass Galleries and other attractions in Brewster using our Brewster trip maker tool.
His efforts resulted in new and exciting glass designs produced by a method similar to the ancient art of enameling.
Our artists continue to follow Sydenstricker's unique process of glass fusion.
To start off they hand cut sheets of glass to fit a terracotta mold.
The first sheet will be decorated by sifting powdered glass through a stencil. The stencil is then carefully removed and a second sheet of glass is laid over the decorated piece.
Next we place the finished piece on a mold in a kiln and begin the firing process. The kiln will gradually reach temperatures of fifteen hundred degrees within five hours. At this point the two pieces of glass fuse together sealing the design within as well as slump into the mold producing the desired shape. The kiln is then turned off and the glass is left to cool overnight.
Finally, the piece will be taken out of the mold to be thoroughly washed and inspected before it can be engraved with our signature 'Syd'. This certifies the piece is of the highest quality and is now ready to be brought up to the gallery to be cherished for lifetimes.

A fabulous, but so out-of-the-way glass workshop and gallery on a quaint side route in Brewster, MA. Beautiful, typically small, very colorful pieces of handmade glass art work, mostly in the form of practical tableware. I love coming here whenever we are on the Cape. We have - and treasure - a lot of very pretty pieces made in this workshop. We use some of them, but display all of them. I just wish it was a lot closer than 3000 miles away!

A gem. A REAL gem! This place is a fine art glass design studio, a highly sophisticated manufacturing facility and a rich experience in a display/sales establishment. Good prices on excellent items. Small spontaneous purchase trinkets, durable but beautiful homewares and also a wide selection of trophy/display items. All in a tucked away corner of beautiful Cape Cod.
