Brimley State Park, Brimley

Brimley State Park is a state park in Michigan, USA. Established in 1923, it is one of the oldest state parks in the region.
The initial 38acre were a gift from the Village of Brimley, with the remaining area acquired through purchase or exchange. Today, the park consists of 151acre with 237 campsites, hiking trails, a large picnic area, playground, beautiful swimming beach and a picnic shelter that can be rented. Electric and water systems were added in 1947. Brimley State Park is located west of Sault Ste. Marie on the shores of Whitefish Bay, one mile (1.6 km) east of Brimley on 6 Mile Road.

Yearly rain and snowmelt in the region averages 28 – 36 inches but can be dramatically altered by the "lake effect," thus depositing significant amounts of snow within a short period of time causing hazardous road conditions.
Brimley State Park is a seasonal park affording hiking, camping, cabin lodging, swimming, picnicking, a playground, boating and fishing. Cross-country skiers and snowshoers are welcome to use the park in the off-season.
Brimley State Park has a 237-site modern campground as well as a mini-cabin and a beautiful swimming beach on Lake Superior's Whitefish Bay. There are three modern bathhouses with hot and cold running water and one accessible unit for those with special needs. Both sunny and shady campsites are available. The campground facilities are open from April 15 to November 5 with no modern toilets during the first and last months. The handicapped accessible mini-cabin, which can sleep four on bunk beds, offers a microwave, small fridge, small heater, charcoal grill, picnic table and fire ring.

  • A beautiful campground settled into the trees with wide and level lots, clean washrooms, and friendly staff. Take a walk in the forest around the sites and check out the birches and stream. A nice picnic area and little beach too. Oh, and make sure to get your firewood and groceries in town before getting to the campground and ask for directions to get your water. It's not available at every site. But we absolutely loved our time there with family and pets and will definitely return.
  • This is a very nice campground. Lots are very generous in size, and the shoreline is beautiful. Unfortunately the bathrooms leave a lot to be desired. They are not cleaned very well. Appears just a quick spray bottle cleaning. We stayed for 4 nights, and the same dirty diaper was on top of the shower stall the whole length of our stay. If it weren't for the bathrooms, would definitely give it a 5 star rating.
