Dade Battlefield Historic State Park is a state park located on County Road 603 between Interstate 75 (Exit 314) and U.S. Route 301 in Sumter County, Florida. The 80-acre (32 ha) park includes 40 acres (160,000 m2) of pine flatwoods and a live oak hammock. Also called the Dade Massacre site, it preserves the Second Seminole War battlefield where tribal Seminole warriors fought soldiers under the command of Major Francis L. Dade on December 28, 1835. Each year, on the weekend after Christmas (as close to the original date as possible), the Dade Battlefield Society sponsors a reenactment of the battle that started the Second Seminole War.

Under the title of Dade Battlefield Historic Memorial, it is also a United States National Historic Landmark (designated as such on April 14, 1972).

  • My kids brought home less than desirable grades. Figured we'd get some hands on learning. Short field trip from home. And they learned something new. Husband and I actually said our vows here as well. Along with growing up coming here for family reunions. Would love to see them updated the old building. Although I'll admit, that funky smell brings back childhood memories lol. Fun times. Amazing old oaks here!!! $3 per vehicle up to 8 passengers. Would pay more or donate to help update building. :)
  • Very nice park. People friendly. I went for a wild foraging course. There were many home schooled children with their Moms and they were enthusiastic. We were able to sample some of the wild herbs and afterwards they prepared acorn bread and pancakes with elderberry flower, blueberries and blackberries. We tasted pine tea and others too and some jams. It was interesting and pretty much hands on. We sampled wild cucumbers which were exactly like cultivated cucumbers except very tiny. $5.00 12 and older for foraging and $3 per vehicle ...make for and interesting lesso
