Create an itinerary including Cape Cod Canal
Take a boat ride down Cape Cod Canal, or use the waterside paths for recreational activities. First used in 1914, the canal connects two bays to the north and south of the peninsula, while two highway bridges and a railroad bridge link the Cape with the mainland. Whales and dolphins occasionally pass through this artificial waterway, while locals use the paved walkways on either side for strolls, cycling, jogging, and fishing. Stop in the visitor center for more information on the canal's history and natural surroundings. Extend your visit with hikes or camping at the nearby state reserve. A visit to Cape Cod Canal represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Bourne trip itinerary planning tool to plot your vacation.

  • Cape Cod Canal is one of the great wonders of the Cape. Two beautiful bridges, The Bourne and the Sagamore have been photographed thousands of times. Watching the railroad bridge lower is something...

  • The man-made Cape Cod Canal is very scenic with both boat traffic traveling up & down and walkways (for bikes & foot traffic) on either shore. The railroad to Hyannis is also on the southern shore...

  • I spend alot of time eating, boating, riding my bike and taking it in whenever I get a chance. Grew up near by and enjoy so many great moments with family and my father on the boat. Absolutley stunning horizon views and great fish to catch!
  • CC Canal is my daily go to for biking the 7 mile waterside asphalt trail working out or walking and hiking the trails along side it. Plenty of boats and ships, occasional train crossings when the train bridge is lowered for crossing. At Christmas time the Polar Express train treats families to an off sight extravaganza to which I've never been. The kids love it. The fairly new train service from Boston to Hyannis transits and stops here. They beat the horrific highway traffic and carry your bikes etc. Plenty of bathroom access, the Village of Buzzards Bay and good places to shop or eat, drink and walk. BBay has a kids water park, play area there too.. A Pavilion for gatherings and take out dining. Band concerts during the evening during Summer (Thursdays?) in that Green as well. An occasional local farmers market as well. There are a few bike shops that sell, repair and rent various types of bikes. Plenty of parking, walkathon fundraisers, road races and many biking families, training and casual bikers.Lots of dog walkers and strolling couples. Tons of fishers trying to land stripers, bluefish, sea bass along the the riprap.
