The Cable Natural History Museum was established in 1967 by Mary Griggs Burke in honor of her mother, Mary Livingston Griggs. The first Museum Director hired was Lois Nestel, a self-taught naturalist and taxidermist who was a well-loved native of Cable. Lois Nestel retired from the Museum in 1988.

  • Very very small museum (basically only a couple rooms) but I knew this going into it. We saw the entirety of it in about 20 minutes. Tuesday’s are free admission. The main reason we went was to see...  more »
  • Museum wonderfully done. some excellent exhibits for children. Tuesday is free day! Interactive exhibits are very well done. Wonderful docents.  more »
  • The newly remodeled kids room was very fun, interactive, and engaging. We went to a program about raptors that was interesting and educational and fun for the kids. Definitely worth the stop if you're in the area, especially if you stop by on the free day (Wednesday or Thursday? I can't remember)
  • The changing exhibit is always well loved and chosen. The workers are inviting and knowledgeable. And the curiosity center is perfect for the kids!
