Sunset River Marketplace was founded in 2002 by Ginny and Joe Lassiter. Opening a Calabash art gallery that would become a community center and a hub for local and regional artists has been a long time dream of Ginny’s, and that’s exactly how Sunset River has evolved. The 10,000 square-foot space houses works by about 150 artists, all from either North or South Carolina. Artists and art lovers meander with complimentary coffee or tea through the gallery or gather at one of the bistro tables placed throughout the welcoming space. In the back are two classrooms. One is used for pottery kiln and firing and the other for ongoing art classes and special three- and five-day artist workshops. A recent expansion added a section of pottery wheels as well as an extension to the painters' classroom. There’s also a full custom frame shop, complete with a huge selection of mouldings, mats and glass.Arrange to visit Sunset River Marketplace and other attractions in Calabash using our Calabash trip builder app.
In addition to artist receptions and several charity events, the gallery hosts two different community programs throughout the year.
Coffee With the Authors is a late morning presentation by a range of local and regional authors. We’ve had travel writers, self-help authors, mystery writers, other novelists and more. Check back here on our Facebook page or at our website for updated schedules and times.
We hope you’ll stop by to see us. Be sure to say hello! Ginny is the owner. Mona and Dianne are also on hand to help you; and Lou is our master framer.
Artists who are interested in exhibiting at the gallery (North and South Carolina artists only, please) should contact Ginny Lassiter via email at lassiter@sunsetrivermarketplace.com. Please include your bio information along with three to four good quality images of your work. Please do not just drop by with your work! Thank you so much for your interest!
Artists, please note that we don't purchase your artwork. This is a consignment gallery.
