Create an itinerary including Montezuma Castle National Monument
A cliff dwelling built by the prehistoric Sinagua people, Montezuma Castle National Monument took three centuries to complete. The dwelling has five stories and 20 rooms, giving it its castle-like appearance. View the dwelling from the lookout point below, then learn about the Sinagua culture and history in the visitor center near the viewing platform. There you will discover that the name of the attraction developed thanks to a misinterpretation by early settlers who thought that the Aztec leader Montezuma had something to do with its construction. • what a neat monument to visit, its really cool to see how it was carved and built into the side of a cliff, it’s definitely not an all day visit, but its a cool stop if you are passing through

  • Small site and very crowded, even on a weekday. Doesn't hold a candle to Chaco Canyon or Mesa Verde, but I was there as a kid and in the area so it was worth another look.

  • It’s a very short, paved loop trail to go see the ruins. They are magnificent and interesting. Its intriguing to wonder how life was like back then. It was surprisingly very busy when we went. Handicapped accessible as best I could tell. I would recommend to see walnut canyon over this site if you only do one. Otherwise makes a great leg stretcher.
  • Loved the cliff dwelling and the guy playing the flute by the visitor center was very serene. He could play very well. Clean and a nice easy hike. I wanted a pin but line was too long for the gift shop. It said max. 10 and I was by myself. I think you could have squeezed me in when there were only 4-5 inside. I know we are just over could but be flexible and accommodating.
