Kodachrome Basin State Park reviews
Definitely one of the best state parks in the United States. I visited in February 2021. The weather was absolutely perfect. I could not imagine hiking here in 100 + degree weather. My favorite... more »
Utah has plenty of huge, weird, and unique rock formations, but Kodachrome Basin is in its own category of weirdness. Enjoy a short drive and hike around, looking at the different chimneys and... more »
I would give this place 10 Stars if I could. It is as awesome a park as you can imagine. It got its name from a National Geographic photographic picture story from the 1920s or so. The photographers were so blown away by the geologic features they decided that Kodachrome Basin was the proper name for this place. We came for a couple of days there are well we toured around the other national parks in the vicinity and very much enjoyed it.
This is a very nice and quiet (out-of-the-way) place with real natural beauty. It's about 30 minutes away from Tropic Utah and is a good alternative to Bryce Canyon. I did a half-day visit during the afternoon hours and the colors of this place are quite spectacular. Take the time to hike and photograph the surroundings. There is no shortage of good views here. You will like the peace and quiet this place has to offer as there are so few people around. Most of them are serious campers and not tourists. The park offers a small laundry facility with clean restrooms for those who need it. I wish I had more time to explore this lovely place. Do some research on why this place is named the way it is. It will all make sense when you see it in person. Totally worth the 8 dollars I paid to visit this place and surely a place to revisit someday.
