  • Skinny Dip Falls was a relatively short and easy hike. There is a nice swimming hole, but it was not very deep when we went. There was also a rock above that you can jump from, but you have to be careful considering the swimming hole is relatively shallow and rocky. The water was freezing cold, but refreshing. Of course, things can vary depending on the weather and time of year you choose to go.
  • Absolutely beautiful place to visit. Easy access off the Blue Ridge Parkway (mm 417 I think) and parking at the Looking Glass Rock overlook. This place can get crowded fast in the summer, but it is worth it. The Hike: From the parking lot just walk across the Blue Ridge Parkway and you will see the trail head. It is easily navigated even for the most novice hiker. About 500 to 1000 feet down the trail you will see an open area where you can go three different directions......just go straight here and the trail ends at the falls. The hike itself is a very short distance, probably about a quarter mile. There are natural and man made stairs, lots of roots and stones and a lot of up and down hill, but is easily traversed. I just did it with my 4 yr old grandson and it took us about 5-10 minutes max. It is a heavily travelled trail in summer but lots of families do it. The Falls: Once you get there, there's several sections of falls and nice plunge pools to swim in. The water is VERY cold, but on sunny days plenty of sunshine comes through to warm you up quickly. For the daredevils, the middle of the falls has a really nice deep pool and some big boulders to jump off into the water, or throw down a towel and just soak up the sun. It is definitely worth the trip to see.
