McAfee Knob is a geological feature with an elevation of 3,197 feet (974 m) above sea level, located on Catawba mountain in Catawba, Virginia, United States. It is named for a Scotch-Irish 18th-century settler. Considered to be among the most iconic points along the Appalachian Trail, the vista offers panoramic views of the Catawba Valley, 1,600 feet (490 m) below.

  • Though this was the longest of the 3 hikes we did (The Triple Crown of VA), I thought it was the easiest. Perfect hiking weather, leaves turning, scenery was breathtaking especially at the top.  more »
  • My daughter and I took the moderate/strenuous Appalachian Trail route to McAfees Knob, then took the easy/moderate Fire Road trail back. Even taking the 2 separate trails, it was still 8 miles round....  more »
  • A beautiful hike to the ledge! Moderate climb upgrade. Downhill on the way back. Awesome view once you've there.
  • Amazing hike but make sure you bring food and WATER. I went with my mom and sister and we had an amazing time
