Makutu’s (Ma-coo-two’s) Island, one of Arizona’s largest indoor play places, is a trip into fantasy and adventure for children of all ages and a perfect way to beat the Arizona heat. Designed with a tropical theme, Makutu’s is a lush, exciting indoor “island” with a roaring waterfall, towering trees, and mysterious caves.Ask Inspirock to suggest an itinerary and make planning a trip to Chandler fast, fun, and easy.
The centerpiece of Makutu’s Island is its 25-foot indoor old oak tree. Filled with tunnels, tubes, mole-holes, fire-poles and slides, the magnificent tree offers hours of fun and adventure. Around the tree’s perimeter, guests will find animals carved within its extensive roots and a comical three-animal totem pole. Within the majestic tree, the “banana” slide is a sure thrill as it starts 25 feet into the air and winds more than 35 feet around the outside of the tree to its base.
After exploring the tree, many of Makutu’s guests find themselves in one of the three adjoining play structures including the Blue Fantasy Tree, Pirates Cove and Palm Slide. Less rigorous than the old oak tree, these areas are perfect for the less-experienced island traveler and include tunnels, caves and a zip-line.
In addition to Makutu’s main four play areas, the island also offers its smaller guests a special toddlers area. Oscar’s Lagoon is a slower placed environment of Makutu’s smallest “castaways.” In the Lagoon, toddlers will enjoy three small slides and soft foam blocks.
Things start to heat up on Makutu’s Island within The Inferno -- a fiery volcano that is home to the island’s video arcade. Within The Inferno, children can try their luck on a selection of some of the “hottest” games available.
Makutu’s Island is also proud to offer the Jungle Jamboree Theatre which is home to storytelling, crafts and educational venues. The theatre is currently featuring, “Shake, Rattle and Roll,” a hands-on discovery into Polynesian music and island dancing. When it is time for lunch or a snack, The Under-the-Sea Café, provides a full menu with many family favorites, all within a fanciful undersea-themed environment.
Makutu’s Island is a perfect spot for birthdays and boasts six private party rooms. Personalized service and convenience are at the heart of having a birthday at Makutu’s Island. Guests are greeted at the front door and the party begins at The Party Pier. Parties include one hour of play and one hour in a private party room.
Makutu means “magic” in the Polynesian language of Maori -- the indigenous people of New Zealand. But in Arizona, Makutu is also a fun-loving jaguar cub and “king” of this mythical island of fun. Join Makutu and his friends: Kiki, the koala bear; Oscar, the crocodile ; and Captain Max, the parrot, for an island adventure sure to be remembered.
Makutu's Island reviews
There really is stuff for the entire family to do. There’s an arcade, a cafe area, a toddler play area that only has one way in and one way out so your little cant get away from you. It was a good... more »
Kids had a great time. The inside of the play place is tight in some spots so my 2 year old got away from me a couple times while I was trying to contort my body to fit. Would definitely go again. more »
It was really fun. All the kids running around seemed to be having the time of their lives. Adults are allowed into the playground as well. As long as they take off their shoes and have socks on. The only forewarning is that it is crazy loud in there! But you're going to a place for kids so that's expected. We had a party there and the staff was helpful. The room was spacious and clean. Very cool experience!
The only reason I’m giving them 2 stars is because my kids had fun. We had a birthday party here and from the beginning to the end the staff was rude and completely disorganized. When we checked in the young girl checking us in was rude. She seemed bothered by my questions. Our party host, Harley, was very sweet. She was trying her absolute hardest to do a good job. After we ate, sang happy birthday and opened gifts we were chatting with our guests for maybe 10 minutes and a lady came in and said you guys have to leave now, we have other parties and we don’t have time for you to just hang out. Not once did someone before us ask us to leave or tell us we couldn’t “hang out”. We informed her we were waiting for our food to be boxed up and she said we’ll handle that in the kitchen. Never saw our leftover food, 2 pizzas and salad. It was also annoying that we still had to pay for people who didn’t show up. We had booked the 12 kid party but only had 7 kids show up, we still had to pay for the 12. And as a parent I understand that sometimes last minute things come up or kids get sick and you have to change your plans. Overall, we won’t be coming here again. Our party and experience was no where near the $440 we paid for it.
