Battery & White Point Gardens, Charleston

4.6
#4 of 16 in Parks in Charleston
Once a weapon-filled defensive site, Battery & White Point Gardens is now designed for peace and tranquility. As you walk through the pleasant park and gardens, you can examine cannons, statues, and other monuments, including a bronze bust of famous poet, novelist, and historian W.G. Simms. Look for the commemorative marker for a pirate captain and his crew who were hung at the site about 300 years ago. All your wandering will be in the shadow of many large antebellum houses, surrounded by oak trees and overlooking the Charleston Harbor. The gardens are suitable for picnicking, recreation, photography, and other leisurely activities. • We love to this spot! My husband proposed at the nearby battery and our wedding photos were taken at the gazebo. We love to come walk down here and enjoy the views of the water and the city. It's heavily shaded by massive beautiful trees which is a huge plus in the summer.
  • Such a lovely waterside park at the end of the battery in Charleston. The best time to visit is in the spring when the flowers are in full bloom. The park is in the heart of the historic district surrounded by fabulous post Civil War mansions.
  • Very nice place to stop. Very scenic and nice breeze off of the water. Free 2 hour parking was a nice change from other areas where you have to pay. No bathroom close by so be prepared.
  • We toured the area. Very shaded throughout due to the large moss covered trees. The entry ways were all set up with cannon balls or cannons or a flowing american flag. Many places to sit and relax... and people watch. Also, you can stroll the waters edge while the breeze blows and looking out toward the Fort. Gorgeous views all through out
  • Gorgeous location. We are having our wedding renewal here and absolutely love the area. Nice place to sit and talk or just walk around with someone. Right on the water front so can be breezy at times. Great historic location really sets you back in time and its easy to get lost in the colorful history of Charleston when you are here. Parking can be difficult, however, so be prepared for that.
