Citadel Mall is a regional 1,138,527 square feet (105,773 m2) shopping mall located in Charleston, South Carolina, United States. It opened on July 29, 1981 and is located at the intersection of Sam Rittenberg Boulevard (SC Hwy. 7) and I-526. The mall features more than 100 stores, including four anchor stores: the area's largest Belk and Dillard's department stores, Dick's Sporting Goods, and the region's first Target that was recently remodeled to include a new "Fresh Grocery" section. On September 1, 2013 the mall went into foreclosure after then owner CBL & Associates Properties defaulted on mortgage payments and it was purchased at auction by the lender in January 2014. After the auction, the mall was placed under the ownership of a holding company formed by the lender, 2070 Sam Rittenberg Boulevard Holdings LLC and as of January 2017 was under contract to be sold to an undisclosed buyer.

  • It's a relic of another time. Probably about 50% of the shops are empty. Some of the area has been made a set for filming something, so that's cool. Also, I hear MUSC is close to opening a new location there too. That should help bring some prosperity back. On the plus side, I was able to find exactly what I needed at Belk. Before shopping we had a nice lunch at Tattoo Moose.
  • I don't know what part of town I was in because I am not from the area, so I don't know if this is "THE MALL". I was surprised by the selection of businesses in here. A few clothing stores, two hair salons, a vision center, an eye doctor, cosmetology school, a Target??, a vapor shop, shoe stores. Oh kids play joint. Interesting, but it was a nice trip for me.
