Create an itinerary including Magnolia Cemetery
Founded on a rice plantation, Magnolia Cemetery represents the final resting place of 2,200 Civil War veterans. Notable politicians, poets, and army generals are also buried here. Spread across 37 hectares (92 acres) of forested grounds with landscaped paths, the cemetery holds impressive memorial plaques, busts, ornaments, and crypts. It contains the only chapel mausoleum in Charleston, as well as a large lagoon that feeds the Cooper River, used for scattering ashes. The cemetery offers occasional ghost walks and interpretive storytelling tours. Look for the curious Wm. B. Smith Pyramid at the site. • We took a Haunted Tpur of Magnolia Garden Cemetery and it was absolutely amazing. The history was so cool and getting to learn so much and see types of graves that I have never seen before was so neat. I highly recommend this tour!
  • Beautiful old cemetery that you can drive through. Has a confederate memorial that you should not miss. Beautiful old monuments and headstones.
