Metalmorphosis was conceived by Count Riprand Arco, Founder and Chairman of American Asset Corporation, when the Count set out to design a visually stunning focal point for AAC's 200-acre office park development - Whitehall Corporate Center. Before you head to Charlotte, plan trip itinerary details with our user-friendly Charlotte holiday planning app, to make sure you see all that Charlotte has to offer, including Metalmorphosis.
With it's grand plaza, Whitehall Corporate Center presented an opportunity to create something monumental - a sculpture that would inspire both native Charlotteans and visitors alike.
Count Arco approached internationally renown Czech Sculptor, David Cerny. Cerny's idea for a one-of-a-kind sculpture was conceived, crafted and executed from its original concept, a testament to his technical savvy and his talent as an artist. Cerny says, "I was thinking about doing something as a centerpiece. I knew I wanted to employ water from the beginning." In addition to the water element, Cerny's design also incorporates a complex infrastructure and choreographed movement on a magnificent scale, creating a beautiful synergy of form and function.

This was so interesting to us - it is a huge art installation in the middle of an industrial park! We enjoyed seeing the pieces spin around to form a human head....The head is based on a beautiful fountain and as the pieces spin - the water flows over the different sides of the fountain. It is really fun to watch and enjoy.

Wonderful. Yes it works. The sections rotate to various positions. If it is not doing something exciting during your visit it is just the programmed pattern of change. Stick around, come back later or view on the webcam and you will see it doing something different. Sometimes it is fast and exciting. Other times the moves are slow and minor even repetitious. It is just the luck of the draw for what you might see during your visit. Try again. I have seen a good bit of variation from visit to visit. I have never seen it spew water out it's mouth. Seen video of it but not so sure that party still functions. May just be my luck that I haven't seen it.
