Kayak, canoe, raft, rock climb, mountain bike, or just enjoy the outdoors at U.S. National Whitewater Center, a recreation center adjacent to the Catawba River. This facility, which opened in 2006, features the world's largest recirculating artificial whitewater river. The river paths, designed by three-time Olympian Scott Shipley, are used as unofficial training grounds for whitewater slalom racing. However, the center has activities for people with every level of experience in outdoor activities, including classes and events/festivals year round. The center's main goal is to promote healthy, active lifestyles. Plan to see U.S. National Whitewater Center and other attractions that appeal to you using our Charlotte trip planner.
U.S. National Whitewater Center reviews
Would consider moving to Charlotte to have this in our backyard! I'd buy an annual pass, heck, I'd apply for a job there. If you like being outdoors, a must-visit! Enjoying kayaking, rafting... more »
This place is really cool! Lots of activities and things to do - or not do. Fun for the whole family!! more »
I was here for a short layover and loved walking around, watching the boats, and eating a good meal. It's nice there is so much space for you to hang out and just enjoy the atmosphere. I didn't partake in the paid activities but those looked fun, too. However, if you have been whitewater rafting in places like Colorado - this just won't compare. Still a great place to spend an afternoon!
Beautiful park! The artificial rapids are incredible! I had no idea that was possible. Great things to do if you're an outdoor aficionado. Wall climbing, rapids rafting or kayaking, pretty impressive zip lines, hiking, more. There's a very decent restaurant with a very respectable selection of beer and wine. One of the coolest things to do, if not the coolest around Charlotte, NC.
