Ruby Falls, Chattanooga

#2 of 6 in Nature in Chattanooga
A thundering underground waterfall, Ruby Falls is fed by both natural rainwater and natural springs. Located at the end of the main passage of a deep mountain cave, the waterfall creates a pool in the cave floor and then continues to flow through underground passages until it finally empties into the Tennessee River. Enter the cave to see the 45 m (150 ft) waterfall and several types of geological formations, including stalactites and stalagmites. For an in-depth look at this underground world of water and limestone, join a guided tour of the cave, or check online for your chance to see the falls on an expedition using only lanterns to light the way. • Seeing the waterfall was spectacular, a wonderful experience. The walk to and from was long sometimes narrow. 1 mile round trip. Not recommend for someone who has difficulty walking. Also no restrooms in the cavern. I'm glad I got a combo ticket so everywhere was discounted. Unfortunately we saved Ruby Falls for last after we were wore out walking all day at the other events. Tip: Start with Ruby Falls. There will be time to rest in the beauty of nature latter in the day. When I do it again, Ruby Falls will be first, early, then I'll do the incline second and end at Rock City.
  • Actually visited here a couple years ago, but enjoyed the visit. Interesting history of how the falls were discovered. Although the walking path is narrow there were some neat sites and even though the waterfall was not flowing a lot it was still a beautiful site. It sounds like we got to stay at the fall longer a couple years ago than some of the more recent reviews. Definitely would not recommend for anyone with difficulty walking on narrow, uneven surfaces.
  • Quick Tips: - You want to be here early to have a more enjoyable experience! - The cave paths are small (you’ll be walking with a group and will have groups walk past you). Not good if you’re claustrophobic or have bad anxiety. - Maybe bring a light sweater, it does get a little cool, but nothing you can’t handle! The cave was beautiful and the waterfall was awesome. We had no problem finding parking (we were here early). We bought and received our tickets easily. We waited in line for about 20 minutes before we headed down with our tour guild. Everyone walks one behind another, not so bad. Every so often the tour guild will stop to point something out or to mention something (I thought this was boring). At the end you go through the gift shop, they have pretty cool stuff there and the prices were reasonable! In all, super cool experience!
  • The hype is not what it ends up being. It was a nice hike through the cave and the waterfall is pretty, but you only get to see the falls for 8 minutes before you head back out. There is cool formations on the hike but from the ads and such it sounded like there was so much more to do for over $30 a person. The "castle" is a snack bar... not really a castle.
  • It was a nice walk, but very narrow when the other groups were going out of the cave. I went 23 years ago and loved it, but did not like it this time at all. They only gave the group 6 min. in the room the water falls is at then they turn the lights off and you were done, there were people still trying to there 1st pictures. Will not go back, we felt like we were being push through.
