Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum is dedicated to preserving steam locomotives and passenger trains. Admire the antique engines displayed in the front of the museum as you wait for the train. Hop on a 9.7 km (6 mi) tour of the surrounding area in a vintage coach pulled by a steam engine. On the dinner train tour, you can enjoy a three-course meal while chugging through urban East Chattanooga. Visit the website to check the schedule and make tour reservations. This is a great find! It is a short train ride with refreshments on both ends of the track. Lots of history and it is a 501(c)(3), dedicated to the education and restoration of our history of trains. They have lots of seasonal themed rides and it is fun for all ages. We will definitely be back for Halloween and the Polar Express rides this fall/winter.
I can't rate this highly enough. We rode the one hour daily ride (I forget the name) and it was absolutely perfect for kids. The train ride (15 minutes) had bridges and a tunnel to excite riders. The train turning and back shop demonstrations were really informative without lasting too long. We even stopped and ate at the diner at the station. The food was served quickly and it was tasty! It was a really special experience that we all enjoyed. This is one of the best Chattanooga 'must see' attractions for families.
