The Cheyenne Depot Museum is a railroad museum in Cheyenne, Wyoming. It is located inside the historic Union Pacific Railroad depot, built in the 1880s. The depot, a National Historic Landmark, was the railroad's largest station west of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and a major western example of Richardsonian Romanesque architecture.

The museum, founded in 1993, interprets Cheyenne's early history and that of the construction of the Union Pacific Railroad. It hosts an annual Steam Train Excursion in July, and Depot Days, in which tours are offered of other railroad facilities.

  • This is a great place to visit if you like the history of a city. There is a restaurant and brewery attached to the east of the main terminal. Worth a stop if traveling through Cheyenne.

  • Cool little museum with a lot of railroad and Cheyenne history! The model trains dioramas were cool but it’s a shame they weren’t operating. We didn’t have kids with us but it seems like they might get a little bored since there’s limited things for them to interact with. Lots of awesome detailed reading and history for adults though. The audio tour was cool too since it uses your phone and you just dial in for each area. Would definitely recommend if you’re visiting Cheyenne.
  • The Union Pacific oriented museum is loaded with historical information and pictures, which is a blessing for rail fans who want to read it all but a headache creator for those want just the key bullet points. There is a fantastic miniature model railroad exhibit. One of the last Big Boy Steam engines, the largest ever built is in a park 3 minutes by car from the museum.
