B.L.U.E.S., Chicago

#34 of 158 in Nightlife in Chicago
Nightlife · Blues Bar
Whether you are an invested blues aficionado, or just a blues browser, you'll enjoy B.L.U.E.S. A trip here is a no-risk venture into some reliably good music. And this stands true seven days a week, 365 days a year.

B.L.U.E.S. features primarily local artists (e.g. Son Seals, Eddie Shaw, Magic Slim, Eddy Clearwater). The atmosphere is friendly and intimate. Stretching along its right side is a long bar, and along its left side a riser for overflow seating.

Small tables mold parties into intimate groups, fostering a close atmosphere amongst friends and neighbors. The set-up is such that no matter where you sit, you're always in the middle of the action.

Weekends are busy, so if you want to score a barstool, you'll need to arrive early. There is plenty of space on weeknights, though. As a matter of fact, you might find yourself elbow to elbow with your favorite blues artist having a drink on his or her day off.

B.L.U.E.S. has been voted best blues club on Chicago's north side. It offers the assurance of good music in a friendly, intimate environment.

  • Small, but just what you would expect. Now, granted this isn't the Checkerboard Lounge or Wise Fools Pub of yesteryear. This North side, doing South side best as it can.  more »
  • The greatest dive bar in Chicago! When you think blues, you should think B.L.U.E.S on Halsted. They opened in 1979, and have been in the same location ever since. If you love live music, this is the....  more »
  • As authentic as it gets! I was lucky enough to meet a local who told me about the charm of this bar, where the decor has not changed and neither has the LIVE music... authentic Chicago town blues 💙 what a great introduction to the musical heritage and talents of this city!
  • I've always enjoyed dive bars and this is one of the great ones. I went there on a Sunday night and it cost $7 to get in. The band played several sets and it was terrific Blues. Great value for the $$ spent. Honestly the bar felt like a community. Someone came in for their birthday and the whole bar sang to him and shared in his celebration. The wait staff and bartenders were very nice but by no means would this be considered upscale. I found the drinks to be reasonably priced. I do not know if they serve food because I had come from dinner. There is limited street parking. Would highly recommend public transport or ride sharing.
