Garfield Park Conservatory, Chicago

4.7
Several different climates are housed under one glass roof at Garfield Park Conservatory. Visit the six greenhouses to see plants from all over the world, including 200-year-old cycads, a type of plant with a woody trunk and large evergreen leaves. Tour the 1.8 hectare (4.5 acre) site on a guided tour to learn more about the history of the building and to gather specific information on the collections of plant species. The conservatory also offers a few different themed tours ("Tropical Treats" or "Behind-the-Scenes," for instance), but you'll need to register online ahead of time for one of these. Using our custom trip planner, Chicago attractions like Garfield Park Conservatory can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • We visited the Conservatory because the day was cold and rainy. Very easy to access with the green line! Recommend!

  • Haven't been here in years glad I came back. The park district really has done a class A job on this gem. Don't let the location hold you back from coming here it's safe if you don't go off into the park. I was impressed at the exhibitions they had. Spring flowers were beautiful. They had it looking like a flower filled meadow it was a treat. Fern room is way improved. The palm hall is nice. I will be back
  • Beautiful in every step. Lots to learn for all ages. Several different areas that vary by environmental factors. Tropical, arid, and more. An ever changed specialized area that changes theme. Free parking near by. Enter is free, with only a suggested donation box near the entry. Clean and well kept. Really nice little gift shop too. Fun activities through to involve kids too. And a million great photo opps. Currently also showcasing a hundred year plant that is about to bloom! Also has restrooms on site.
