North Avenue Beach is located in Lincoln Park at 1600 N. Lake Shore Drive (North Ave. @ Lake Michigan). As one of Chicago's most popular beaches, the beach features a unique and popular beach house that contains 22,000 square feet of space that features something for everyone and is permanently docked along this popular beach. This sleek, ocean liner-inspired building, decked out in a crisp blue and white, boasts one of the best views in the city. The beach house has upper decks and portholes for looking at the magnificent horizon or the multitudes of bikers, runners, walkers and rollerbladers streaming down the lakefront trail. In May 2000, Mayor Richard M. Daley dedicated the North Avenue Beach House during a grand opening event for the public that included games for kids, free sand pails, refreshments and a jazz band.

North Avenue Beach offers an array of amenities and recreational opportunities for beach goers to enjoy that include:

  • Cold but pretty and picturesque!! Walked our way from our Magnificent Mile / Michigan Avenue hotel towards North Ave Beach for a great shot of ChiTown Skyline Shots! Worth it!!  more »
  • One of the best places in the US. Chicago is an amazing place to visit. North Shore is beautiful in the summer.  more »
  • While in Chicago for the weekend, we rented Divvy Bikes and rode them along the North Ave Beach shore on the trail right along the bike path adjacent to the water for about 2 hours! It was super hot out, but it was fabulous!!! We had so much fun while riding, watching everyone on the beach playing volleyball and running with their dogs in the sand....sitting and enjoying the sun and playing in the water, even if it was probably cold. It is a busy place along the beach! So nice that they have this for people to enjoy! And it seemed to be kept pretty clean as well, which is always nice. There are water fountains every so often along the trail to grab a drink of water and the paths are clearly marked for either walking or biking.
  • of course NAV beach doesn't require any introduction. Most famous spot in the summers to chill on the beach side. Few important things are: parking in almost full so plan ahead There is a photography point (a small train on the east most side of the beach) Sunrise are really really worth it, must go there in the summers. Lot of sports rentals, volleyball nets, jet skis etc. restroom facility is pretty decent and there is a shack restaurant too. Chicago city views are the best from here head to the east side for some mesmerizing views of sky scrappers and 360 Chicago Enjoy!!
