  • A piece of history of Florida and the Everglades. Not to be missed. Go inside. Pay the $5 entrance fee and enjoy. No bathrooms and the outhouse was disgusting. So don't plan on using the "facilities ".
  • We booked a 1.5H tour with Captain Gary, who has lived in the area since he was 10. I did not worry about getting lost at sea with him at the helm. And let me just say, to us, most of those islands looked identical, and finding out way out would have been like finding a needle in a haystack. Captain Gary pointed out many different species of birds and found a few dolphins, a few of which even “surfed” in the wake of the boat, going close enough to splash us. It was great. He went as far west as Pavilion Key, where we were able to get out and walk around the island, admiring the many large, intact shells you aren’t allowed to take with you, but can photograph. We even got to see the roof of a house that was being transported by barge that had an accident and floated into the Everglades park, getting stuck on an island, as well as Native American artifacts. Captain Gary was great, he was kind and engaging with our children, and we had every confidence with him driving our boat.
