The Copper Art Museum is Arizona's newest art museum which is in perfect unity with the former company-town of Clarkdale, a City Beautiful Movement town founded in 1912. Clarkdale was built by Senator W. A. Clark “America’s Copper King” for the mass-production of industrial copper from 1915 to 1953, which was exported throughout the world. The museum’s collection is the “largest return of copper,” “back” to both Clarkdale and the “Copper State” and showcases what man created with the red-metal while it was away. For travelers who use our international travel planner, Clarkdale holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Arizona Copper Art Museum and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.
The Copper Art Museum features exhibits of copper art and collections for study, which were made by coppersmiths, soldier artists and braziers; many of whom were masters in their trade. Artifacts displayed have an emphasis on American and European works-of-art from the 16th - 21st century. The affinities and history of copper is also featured and is very fascinating, bringing forth forgotten stories, legends and mysteries.

A very interesting and enjoyable museum of art and history of copper. The beauty in the everyday was evident, with displays of copper goods from art to kitchen utensils across history. We spent a good couple of hours and could have spent longer if we had the time. Highly recommend if you enjoy history and craftmanship. The display of trench art (sculptured ammunition cases) was amazing and the best I have seen.

The lovely docent (I thought he was Anthony Hopkin's twin) gave us a brief history about Mr Clark, who founded the town for the copper miners. Apparently he was the richest man in the world back in the late 1800s and owned several estates from Santa Barbara to New York. The museum is located within an old restored high school. Walking through, one can imagine what it might have felt like attending the school. Very more modern and bright atmosphere than I would have thought for an old mining town. This museum was a little gem in the middle of nowhere that we were happy to have stumbled across.
