DTE Energy Music Theatre (originally Pine Knob Music Theatre) is an outdoor amphitheater located in Independence Township, Michigan, approximately 40 miles (64 km) northwest of Detroit (it has a Clarkston, Michigan mailing address). Built by the Nederlander Organization in the early 1970s, it was originally known as "Pine Knob Music Theatre" due to its proximity to the nearby Pine Knobski area and golf course. The name was changed before the 2001 concert season when DTE Energy (the parent company of Detroit Edison) purchased the naming rights to the amphitheater in a ten-year, $10 million deal. Despite this change, many people still continue to call the venue "Pine Knob", "The Knob", or "The Hill".Plan to see DTE Energy Music Theatre and other attractions that appeal to you using our Clarkston online day trip planner.
Palace Sports and Entertainment, which owns the Detroit Pistons, The Palace of Auburn Hills, and operates Meadow Brook Music Festival, purchased the amphitheater in 1990. Annually, it ranks among the top-selling outdoor concert venues in the world and has won dozens of awards in the industry, including Pollstar's Best Major Outdoor Concert Venue (2000), Billboard's Top Amphitheater for attendance (2011) and Pollstar's Top Amphitheater Venue Worldwide for total tickets sold (2011, 2019).

DTE ENERGY is a good venue for smaller outdoor concerts..my bf and I saw Train, Dave Matthews and quite a few other artists there and we had a blast. However, the parking, and getting out of the... more »
Came here last year to see Sam Hunt in concert and I have been here for a few graduations. Each time the staff have handled the big events super well. The parking lot was very well maintained and organized for it being such a huge crowd. The food and drinks were great. The restrooms were very clean for it being that busy. Will definitely return!
The parking is still the same, and the security doesn't let you sit outside your car while waiting for the 2 hour leave line after the show... The sound is still good here. It's always going to be Pine Knob, they should just name it back to the old name. It's always been a decent outdoor ampitheatre. There's not really a bad seat in the place.
