The Clinton Women’s Club is located in the former George M. Curtis Mansion at 420 5th Avenue South in Clinton, Iowa. The finest woodwork was provided by his mills and artisans. The architect who worked with George Curtis on the house was Josiah Rice who also designed the Clinton County Courthouse and the later addition of the coach house onto the Curtis Mansion. The brick home is a great representation of the architecture from the Victorian Era and is designed in the Queen Anne style.PutGeorge M. The Curtis family contributed much to Clinton’s social life and in the 1880’s. It was the center of evening events with horsedrawn carriages driving to the “porte-cochere” and ladies dressed in elaborate ball gowns being dropped off and wisked up the oak carved grand staircase to the third floor ballroom. Boasting nine fireplaces each carved from different woods, the house has been preserved in its original state including a number of Tiffany stain glass windows.
The Clinton Women’s Club purchased the property in 1925 and has been operated by them since then. It wass responsible for acquiring state recognition for the building for the National Register status. It is used for their meetings and also rented for receptions and other similar events. It is available for tours on Wednesday from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. or by appointment as well as on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend..
A General Meeting will be held Thursday September 5, 2013. Call 563-249-5861 for information.

This is like a mill work museum, which was the business of the builder, stain glass and modern conveniences ahead of its time. Beautiful example of a mid-80's mansion lovingly preserved.
