Buffalo Bill Center of the West offers an extensive collection of artifacts and information about the nation's westward expansion. The center is located in the town named after Buffalo Bill and features five museums. Each focuses on a different aspect of the American West, including Native Americans of the Plains, the environment, and firearms. Other exhibits and annexes cover regional artwork and Buffalo Bill himself, plus a research library contains more than 30,000 books. Consider taking advantage of special lectures, demonstrations of western traditions, or guided tours. Buffalo Bill Center of the West Reviews
We visited this museum while in Cody. It is very clean and well laid out. There is a lot to see. In the main lobby there is a listing of tours that are offered with your paid admission. We did an hour... more »
Wow, we didn't think there was so much to see! We only made it to the Buffalo Bill Center and not to the other museums on site. I'm definitely going to visit again when we return - it was a beautiful ... more »
TWO DAYS. That's what you'll need to truly experience this museum. No wonder they are always rated so high and win some many awards. Their exhibits are detailed, thought provoking, informational, beautiful, and neutral. I especially enjoyed the firearms and natural history museums. The newly renovated firearms section has simulators, interactive gun-models, and firearms safety, as well as a history of guns and guns in society today. The natural history museum's museum layout is very interesting because it is a spiral that starts high and ends low. Each section in the spiral corresponds to an elevation in Yellowstone, so as you walk down the spiral you get to learn about the different elevations and what goes on in them. If you go to this museum, which you should, remember to allocate two days because you will need it.
This place is really awesome be prepared for an experience! It takes a little bit to go through their gift shop, but totally worth it that's when we went they had great sales going on!! So many amazing things to see and it's almost more than a day or 2 if you're in town be prepared to go back!! I can't remember if it was $35 or $45 a person to go through.
