The West Point Foundry was an early ironworks in Cold Spring, New York that operated from 1817 to 1911. Set up to remedy deficiencies in national armaments production after the War of 1812, it became most famous for its production of Parrott rifle artillery and other munitions during the Civil War, although it also manufactured a variety of iron products for civilian use. The rise of steel making and declining demand for cast iron after the Civil War caused it to gradually sink into bankruptcy and cease operations in the early 20th Century.

  • Beautiful short hike, very manageable wide gravel trail that turned into a wooden boardwalk, before there was a staircase that led back to a dirt trail. Saw a few dogs along the way, and I really enjoyed the little historical excerpts at some of the ruins.
  • Located in Cold Spring, NY. Beautiful area on the Hudson River. Offers great views for photography. Very nice hiking trails. Has a rich history that is kept in great condition. Easy to travel there via Metro North Hudson Line, or by car. Short distance from center of town. Cold Spring has very nice selection of restaurants, and antique shops.
